Terms of Service

Last updated: July 1, 2026

Welcome to FreeToolAlt.dev. By accessing or using our website at freetoolalt.dev (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.

1. Description of Service

FreeToolAlt.dev is a free, community-driven directory that lists free and open-source alternatives to popular paid software tools. The Service includes: a searchable homepage, individual tool detail pages, category pages, comparison pages, curated collections, a blog, RSS and JSON feeds, an embeddable widget, and a public API. The directory is updated automatically using AI-assisted discovery and verified by our team.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required to consent to data processing in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any local, state, national, or international law;
  • Submit content (tool suggestions, reviews, or comments) that is defamatory, obscene, hateful, infringing, or otherwise objectionable;
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service, its systems, or its data;
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, including by overloading our API endpoints, scraping at unreasonable rates, or deploying bots that violate our rate limits;
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except as permitted by applicable law;
  • Use automated tools (crawlers, scrapers, bots) to extract data from the Service in bulk without prior written permission;
  • Submit false, misleading, or spam content, including paid reviews or astroturfing;
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity.

We reserve the right to remove any user-submitted content that violates these Terms and to suspend access for repeat violators. Reviews and submissions may be moderated, edited, or removed at our discretion.

4. User-Submitted Content

When you submit content to FreeToolAlt.dev (such as a tool suggestion or a review), you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, and transferable license to use, reproduce, modify, display, and distribute that content for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to submit the content and that it does not violate the rights of any third party.

Tool suggestions are submitted via GitHub Issues on our public repository and become public record. Reviews are stored on our servers and displayed publicly alongside the relevant tool page.

5. Third-Party Tools and Links

FreeToolAlt.dev links to external websites and software maintained by third parties. We do not control, endorse, or warrant the accuracy, safety, or availability of these third-party tools. You access them at your own risk and should review each tool's license terms, privacy policy, and security posture before use. We are not liable for any damage, data loss, or other harm resulting from your use of third-party tools listed on the Service.

6. Advertising

The Service displays advertisements served by Google AdSense and potentially other advertising partners. We are not responsible for the content of these ads or the products and services they promote. Clicking on an ad will take you to a third-party site governed by its own terms and privacy policy. If you encounter a misleading or malicious advertisement, please report it to us and to Google.

7. Intellectual Property

The Service's design, code, original written content (including blog posts), and the FreeToolAlt.dev name and logo are owned by us and protected by copyright and trademark law. The data describing individual tools (names, URLs, descriptions) is factual information that we curate; the directory as a whole constitutes a database with its own protections.

The tools listed in our directory are owned by their respective creators and licensed under their own terms (often open-source licenses such as MIT, Apache 2.0, or GPL). Always check the license of each tool before use.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that the information it contains is accurate, complete, or current. Your use of the Service is at your sole risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, FreeToolAlt.dev, its operators, and its contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising from the Service shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the past 12 months (which, for most users, is zero, since the Service is free).

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FreeToolAlt.dev, its operators, and its contributors from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause or notice, including if we believe you have violated these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease. Any user-submitted content you have provided may be retained in our directory at our discretion.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The most current version will always be posted on this page with the "Last updated" date. By continuing to use the Service after changes take effect, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which FreeToolAlt.dev is operated, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
